The Mentorship Camp for the Eastern Region was held on June 4th and 5th, 2016 at KIIT International School in Bhubaneswar. It was a special moment for the participants as they got an opportunity to interact with a Noble Laureate, Professor Ana E Yunath. The Noble Laureate spent around half an hour interacting with the participants and motivating the young scientists to pursue their research. The participants also got to attend her lecture and were enthused by her wonderful work.
Taking forward the experiences from the Southern Camp, the participants were given time for one on one discussion with the mentors. They were questioned, grilled and forced to identify the gaps. It was a very enriching experience for the mentors as the students understood the gaps on their own and were able to share their plans of taking forward the projects.
Under the able guidance of Dr. A K Paul & Dr. Arundhati Pal, the camp was a huge success and it was able to meet the objectives it aimed for.
Here are some reactions to the camp from the participants:
‘This mentoring camp was very good. For the first time, I got so much time to spend time with scientists. Even my dream of meeting a Nobel Laureate has come true. The mentors have helped me figure out the weaknesses around my project. I will definitely work on them so that I can be the part of IRIS National Science Fair‘ – Mahamaya Mishra, KV-1 Bhubaneswar
‘The onset the camp was very inspiring but we got disappointed when we realized the drawbacks of our project. However, this has got us motivated to work harder on our projects so that they get selected for the IRIS National Fair’ – Sailesh Ranjan, Mother’s Public School Bhubaneswar
‘First time we got the chance to know the effectiveness of our project and what all more can be done on the project. Mentors have given us many ways and ideas to improve our Project. I really want my students be the part of IRIS National Science fair and will definitely help my students to work as per the helpful suggestions given by the mentors.’ – Mrs. P. Jyothirmai, Guide Teacher from Holy Cross School
