The third camp – Western Region Mentoring Camp 2017 was organized on 14th May & 15th June at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai.
The camp was organized in partnership with Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. The camp was inaugurated by Dr P K Joshi followed by a brief orientation about IRIS.
The members from the scientific panel – Dr Hemant Pande, Dr Kishore Amin & Dr P K Joshi interacted with the participants and shared experiences about IRIS, opportunities to represent the world Fair at ISEF and the requisites for the participants to bag a place in Team India.
As the projects were at elementary level, the scientific panel spent time with each project group suggesting some new ways and means to infuse research and innovative thought processes into their existing projects. It was little disheartening for the students and the guides when gaps were pointed out by the subject experts. The discussions and suggestions continued for the entire day. The students and guides took notes of the all the valuable suggestions given by the scientific panel. There were a lot of queries by the students which were clarified by the panel.
Day 2 started with the individual presentation by all the participants in front of scientific panel. The participants were also given a complete understanding of how to write a good synopsis and the session was taken by Dr Amin. He gave ample examples for each of the segment in the synopsis template. Dr P K Joshi & Dr Pande critically analysed each project, tested the basic concepts and gave inputs to each and every participant and motivated them.
Special mention to Dr P K Joshi from Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education who not only took time from his busy schedule but also helped in all the logistic arrangements.
